Hui Aloha Pu'ukapu Community Safety & Outreach Program affectionately named Kū Kaiāulu is a community-led initiative designed around three interconnected pillars: (1) strategic grazing (2) education and outreach, and (3) collaborative partnerships. Rooted in kuleana to ʻāina and community, this program brings residents together to address fire fuel mitigation, safe roadway access, and shared problem-solving.

Community Grazing Project:
Key Activity: A community-driven land stewardship effort that utilizes responsible grazing to reduce hazardous fuel loads. Impact: Create safer community lands, supports paniolo traditions, reduces wildfire risk, and strengthens shared stewardship across Puʻukapu. |
Community Outreach & Education
Key Activity: Provide opportunities for hands-on education and training for homesteaders, ranchers, and families on fire mitigation, land-stewardship, and DHHL issues & concerns.
In August of 2025, HAP hosted a one-day "Community fire safety & land stewardship" workshop. We were proud to bring together homesteaders and community organizations for an opportunity to learn from each other on topics of fire safety within the home, fire mitigation through grazing, native plants, beef production practices. We featured one of Pu'ukapu's own, 'Anakala Kimo Ho'opai, to talk-story about his life as a Cowboy & weather patterns he's seen in his lifetime.
- In 2026, HAP plans to bring more opportunities for learning and collaborating through similar talk-story sessions & workshops.
Impact: Workshops build local capacity and give residents practical skills to keep our community safe and thriving.
